The streets, buildings (especially the cold Casemate Square), telephone booths, bobbies, cars, pubs, etc., all in Gibraltar, remain English. The population, for its part, has various origins. They are mainly British, Andalusian, Genoese, Maltese, Portuguese, as well as Arab and Jewish ancestors from northern Africa and other countries of the southern Mediterranean. Currently, Spanish residents are a minority. In Gibraltar, English is spoken as an official language as well as Spanish. The two languages (British English and Andalusian Spanish), in an unusual mixture called “llanito”, are also spoken.
As a curiosity, Gibraltar was often chosen by some famous people to get married. This was the case of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Roger Moore, Frederick Forsythe or Sean Connery (twice!).
